“not  only …  but  also …”的用法

     “not  only …  but  also …”是一个非常重要的并列连词，意思是：“不但......而且 ......”。其中的also可以省略。在使用这个连词时，应该注意以下几点：（1）在not  only后面 和but（also） 后面必须使用语法作用相同的单词或者短语。例如：John  is  not  only  honest  but  also smart . He  often  gets  first  in  the  exam . 约翰不但诚实，而且很聪明。（本题中，honest和smart 都是形容词作表语。）（2）not  only  和but  also连接两个主语时，谓语动词必须与其接近的主语在人称和数方面保持一致。例如：Not   only  he  but  (also)  I  am  able  to  finish  the  work . Not   only  I  but  also   he   is   able   to   finish   the   work .   （3）not  only放在句首而且不是连接两个主语时, 助动词、情态动词和系动词be应该放在主语的前面。这种情况叫做部分倒装。（4）not  only 和but  （also）后面都是完整的句子时，如果not  only放在前面，它后面的句子要用部分倒装。但是，but  also后面的句子不能倒装。
